When your cruise docks in Yokohama, it may be tempting to get straight to nearby Tokyo. It’s understandable, but your port city is worth a look too — Japan’s second-largest city is ripe for the sampling of local flavor, culture and great mountain views. The surrounding areas boast a huge bronze Buddha at Daibutsu and major Mt. Fuji views from Hakone National Park. But come on… you’ve also gotta see Tokyo! The biggest metro area on earth has long felt a bit like it’s living in the future, though all the energy, tech and neon of areas like Akihabra and Shibuya haven’t replaced the traditional side, with historic neighborhoods of homes… not to mention ample national parks, gardens, shrines and temples.
