Details

This half-day tour takes you to three of Akureyri's most famous attractions: Godafoss Falls and the Botanical Gardens, home to over 2,000 species of plants and flowers; and the Laufas Folk Museum, featuring traditional Icelandic houses with grass roofs. In the year 1000 the Lawspeaker Thorgeir Thorkelsson made Christianity the official religion of Iceland. After his conversion Thorgeir threw his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall. At the Laufas Folk Museum, explore a traditional Icelandic farmhouse of wood, turf, and stone, plus a fascinating collection of Icelandic artifacts. Next, stroll through the Botanical Garden, which was established in 1912. This impressive garden is home to more than 2,000 flora species, ranging from Icelandic natives to specimens gathered worldwide. Afterwards, return to Akureyri for a scenic tour of the town and if time allows, a panoramic view of the harbor.
