This tour will cover an interesting part of the history and culture of Spain:
The underwater heritage is protected by the UNESCO.
Our tour starts with a panoramic drive through the mining area, an impressive landscape where lead and silver were extracted since Carthaginian and Roman times. We will reach Cabo de Palos area, an important coastal area where the Cape “Palos” is situated. Your knowledgeable guide will focus his speech in the underwater heritage in the area, why it is considered one of the most dangerous areas for navigation of the Spanish coast, and also one of the biggest ship graveyards in Europe. All these archaeological underwater sites have been excavated in the last 20 years, and you will visit the only National Museum in Spain which is dedicated to it, and situated in Cartagena. You will be delighted with some of the oldest wood wreckage recovered from the seabed (Phoenician ship from the 7th century B.C.) on display at the museum, as well as the biggest coinage recovered by a treasure hunter company from a Spanish frigate sunk at more than 1,200 yd. These silver and lead coins are part of an enormous treasure on display in this same museum as well as many other interesting artifacts from Roman, Greek, and Medieval shipwrecks.
