Just south of Corfu Town is the majestic Estate of Mon Repos. Perched on the coast, this 258-acre parkland was first developed in 1828 as the estate and residence of the British High Commissioner, Frederick Adams. The villa, at the estate’s highest point, has gardens with a plethora of local and exotic flora, to enjoy. This was also the birthplace of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who was born here in 1921. After extensive renovations, the villa was converted to a museum. From there you will enjoy beautiful views from the hill of Analipsi, the ruins of the ancient city and the basilica of Palaiopolis. Then, continue to the Old Town of Corfu to enjoy a walking tour of its picturesque streets. Boasting Venetian fortifications, neo-classical buildings and charming houses, the Old Town is described in UNESCO’s World Heritage List as a fortified Mediterranean port town of high integrity and authenticity. Admire the famous Esplanade, one of Europe’s largest squares, and the elegant Liston which once allowed access only to the aristocracy of Corfu. Discover all the interesting sites including Saint Spyridon Church, the island’s protector, Town Hall and the charming narrow alleyways that crisscross larger, bustling streets that abound with typical craftsmen’s workshops and colorful shops. Leave the town behind and head north to Paleokastritsa, also known as "Corfu's Capri", a sandy beach in a stunning natural harbor that is entirely protected by a rocky cliff. Visit Paleokastritsa's venerable monastery, founded in 1226. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere created with shady archways and lovely gardens and admire the pretty bays of Paleokastritsa before returning to the port.
