Discover Australia’s oldest army base, the Anglesea Barracks. The Museum is in the Military Gaol, built in 1847. Displays depict the colonial period during British Army occupation as well as the various conflicts Tasmanian service men and women have been involved in from 1899 through to their current deployments. Filled with a fascinating collection of military memorabilia and uniforms, take a guided tour with free time to discover Australia’s military past and present. Then, enjoy a drive through historic Hobart, passing Cascade, Mt Nelson Signal Station, Battery Point and Salamanca, as well as Cenotaph, Soldiers' Walk, Domain, Government House and Botanical Gardens.
Please wear comfortable flat-soled shoes, clothing suited to the weather conditions, a hat and jacket, and bring plenty of biodegradable sunscreen and bottled water. For safety reasons, guests with visual or hearing impairments or travelling in a wheelchair must always travel with a companion.
