Board your motor coach and begin your guided, panoramic tour of Santa Cruz City. Travel down the urban, cosmopolitan boulevards and traverse its hills for a sweeping view of the city. Once done, you’ll leave Santa Cruz and head to the Basilica de Candelaria, the first Marian Shrine of the Canary Islands. Built in the Moorish-influenced Mudéjar style, the basilica is home to the Virgin of Candelaria, declared the island's patron saint in 1599. After this visit, you’ll continue to the Pyramids of Güímar, pyramid-shaped steps built from lava stone without the use of mortar. The steps of this terraced structure pose a conundrum to archaeologists. Norwegian explorer, Thor Heyerdahl, believed their resemblance to Aztec pyramids was evidence of a link between the New World and ancient Egypt. While there, you'll tour the site, visit the museum, and view an audio-visual presentation about these historic pyramids.
